Behind the Mic | Tom Lounges
Tom Lounges hosts two shows on Lakeshore Public Media: Midwest Beat with Tom Lounges, a celebrity interview program airing Tuesdays, and the Midwest Beat Blues Show, a pre-recorded Friday night program focused on blues music, including its history and themes.
Lounges credits his high school teacher, Joe Fetty, for inspiring his career in radio after initially being directionless. Fetty encouraged him to explore his passion for music, leading Lounges to pursue radio inspired by Larry Lujak, a well-known DJ. Starting with an engineering job at a Chicago station, he gained experience in various music genres, including gospel, jazz, and blues, while learning about influential artists like Quincy Jones and Miles Davis.
Lounges transitioned from commercial radio to public radio in 2012, where he has been ever since. He values storytelling in his interviews, particularly connecting with musicians and presenting their music. For him, success comes when he can ask unique questions and build meaningful connections with his guests.
Cheers to your 13th year here at Lakeshore, Tom!

Rathbones's younger brother was killed in WW1. His heartfelt letter to his brother to deal with his grief is emotional
Yes, great movies!
A dose of sulfur and molasses was supposed to "thicken the blood" after a winter of eating dried foods. (Mainly, the laxative effect is what really helped.)
All are great
I’ve been there 4 times! Freakin awesome! Best workout ever!! I do two sessions each time I go and I’ve done a different challenge each time!! Love it! Our biggest group was 22 I think!! The rest were walk ins!
I still watch these movies, even though I've lost count of the number of times I've seen them. When Nigel Bruce died, Basil Rathbone refused to make any more SH movies without him😢
I want to pay for myself to go to prison.
I think that's a nice place to visit.
There are inmates fighting there maybe killed.
And he looked just like I imagined SH would have looked.
I sometimes play one of his movies to fall asleep. Not because they're boring but because I find these movies soothing. Probably because I know he captures the bad guys in the end.
He displays all of his considerable talents in Yankee Doodle Dandy.🇺🇲🎭
Rest In Paradise Tommy 😇🫶🙏💟✝️💟
Awesome actor
This guy is a genius
Show the real Gary Indiana..
Love Basil as Sherlock. I understand that he learned to play the violin for the part.
• I’m blown away by your talent-amazing!
I’ve not long finished watching the 14 Basil Rathbone, Sherlock Holmes movies (yet again), with Nigel Bruce. Black and white classic’s. Many have played Sherlock Holmes and been very good, but for me Basil Rathbone is the best. 🎻
Quite frankly i do enjoy the Films but i prefer narrated versions of the Stories they use the source material Directly
This is the official Myth of Dickens, but it isn't true. Dickens was in financial trouble because "Martin Chuzzlewit," which he told his publicist was his unappreciated masterpiece, was failing. But he wasn't the original author of "A Christmas Carol." I've proved beyond a reasonable doubt that he plagiarized it from an American couple named Mathew Franklin Whittier and Abby Poyen Whittier. Theirs was a Spiritualist story where all the supernatural elements were real, written in the Christian redemption genre. Dickens hurriedly secularized it and dumbed it down for quick sale within six weeks, to stave off impending debt. When it was unexpectedly popular, he pretended to have been the original author all his life.
Heard you on Richard Syrettes show, fascinating.

I NEED a squirrel guardian angel right about NOW!! 😥
Same 😭
Good job 😊❤
He was the greatest playing the character
I'm surprised the IRS wasn't standing right behind her to take 90% and The Big Guy to get his 10%

I learned so much! Great interview Mr. Garcia!

Man's a utility belt away from being Batman.
Tough question. Ask me my top five maybe I could answer that one.
The great escape and also Holocaust are a couple.
I've played at fields all over the eastern USA. Sherwood Forest is my favorite.
Das Boot Stalingrad ( German production) Come and see ( Russian movie) War is the greatest human tragedy, let it be shown as such.
All of them
Man where's "to hell and back" and "fury"
😂😂😂he got bit my kerit D. Frog???
When I was a teenager, his movie 'The Fly' was on television and I was engrossed. But in the last minute of the film the other side of the story is revealed unexpectedly... And I was so freaked out that I have never watched that movie since. Awesome horror.
Tell them mayor Melton
B r the one and only Sherlock Holmes, and n b the only dr Watson.
Ted Healy founded the Three Stooges. Actually six men played the Stooges over the years. Moe , Larry and Shemp where the original group. Shemp wanted to try out other things in Hollywood. Enter Curly. He was the most comical of them all. He suffers a stroke and they bring Shemp back. Curly dies after a few years. Shemp fits in for awhile and on the way home from a boxing match he has a heart attack. He dies. Enter Joe Besser. He works with the Stooges for a year and a half. His wife gets sick, he wants to stay with her. Enter Joe DeRita. He works as a Stooge from the late 1950's to the early 1970's. They make movies with him.
Apparently, the Price family were neighbors of my grandmother’s family when she was growing up in St Louis. Vincent’s older sister and my grandmother were friends and thought Vincent was a grubby pest of a little brother who tried to bother them. He wasn’t really that bad but , you know how little brothers are viewed. 😉
No House of Usher? That's me and my moms favorite Vincent Price film.
A CLASSIC
GODZILLA IS THE KING OF THE MONSTERS!
The effects may look silly. But I'll be god damned if I wouldn't admit that this films imagery isn't powerful. It's brilliant. It's absolutely brilliant. The dread this evokes is unmatched.
My grandad and dad used to watch Laurel and hardy in the 80s and now my dad and I still watched it after he introduced it to me when I was 4! Rest in Peace Oliver Norvell Hardy and Stanley Laurel ( or Norvell Hardy and Arthur Stanley Jefferson)❤❤❤❤
